Technical University of Liberec (TUL) has stood for top-level results in research and science, excellence in teaching, and interdisciplinary collaboration since 1953. More than 6500 students study at seven faculties and one specialized institute and it has nowadays around 1250 employees. Based in a region famed for textile, chemical, glass, mining, and automotive industries, the TUL has focused much of its strategy around these areas forming strong links with local industry, in particular the automotive industry. More than 120 of the TUL’s programs are taught in Czech, while a selection of programs is available in English. In the field of technology transfer, TUL has a tradition of research in close cooperation especially with the textile (e.g., nano-fibres) and automotive industries.

The Faculty of Textiles of the Technical University of Liberec was founded in 1960 as the second faculty of the then University and is the only one in the Czech Republic to provide higher education across the entire textile field. It offers studies in textile technology, clothing production, textile marketing, and textile design. Study programs are accredited as bachelor's, master's, resp. master's follow-up and doctoral. Most of them can be studied in a full-time or part-time form; many are also accredited for teaching in English.

The Faculty of Textiles has six departments - Department of Design, Department of Textile Evaluation, Department of Nonwovens and Nanofibrous Materials, Department of Materials Engineering, Department of Clothing and Department of Technology and Structures. The faculty conducts scientific research activities in basic and applied research, including experimental development. Scientific and research work follows mainly on the directions of technological and materials research, in which the faculty traditionally has highly qualified staff and specialized laboratories with unique instruments. Discoveries such as the new technology for the production of nanofiber sheets make it one of the most prestigious university institutes.
